The saint is bound and in a declarative attitude, while in the background five Christians have been impaled, and another burns at a stake in front of a large crowd witnessing the cruel scene. The anonymous painter wanted to note, in an almost imperceptible text, the martyr represented, perhaps aware of its rarity.
