A stained glass window depicting the child martyr, Saint Pelagius. Born in Asturias, Pelagius – or Pelayo – was educated by his uncle, the bishop of Tuy, and was later captured and brought to Córdoba, where he was imprisoned. The Emir of Córdoba tried to engage in dishonest sexual intercourse, which Pelagius always refused, leading to a horrific martyrdom, suffered on June 26, 925. He is depicted carrying a bouquet of lilies, symbolizing his purity, and the palm that alludes to his martyrdom.
