The cancel that the visitor encounters upon entering the temple has two small windows. In each of them, symbols alluding to the temple's patron: Saint Raphael the Archangel. On the left, the walking stick and the fish. The former refers to the archangel's patronage over pilgrims, while the latter to the fish taken by Tobias to heal his father's blindness, as commanded by Saint Raphael. On the right, the legend "Medicina Dei et Custos Populi", which means Medicine of God and Guardian of the people, as Saint Raphael is the Medicine of God for men and Guardian of the people of Cordoba.
